This site runs Dirtbag, a block theme that prefers plain HTML, native browser behaviour, WordPress core blocks, and no JavaScript unless the job is real.
Dirtbag’s machinery is old and durable:
- WordPress core, HTML, visible links, feeds, and no build step.
- No theme JavaScript of its own.1
- Core CSS and JS are allowed when core blocks need them.
- Global styles carry the paint; content carries the meaning.
For the full parts list, see Features.
- Typography scale informed by Butterick’s Practical Typography.
- Truck icon is CC0 from SVG Repo.
- Feeds, sitemaps, XFN Links, and microformats are part of the road kit.
The post byline — “From [author]’s dashboard” — is a small pun on the car dashboard and the WordPress one. It comes from a translatable pattern, so the words, the possessive “’s” included, can be changed for other languages. We spent too much time (having fun) on that.
Notes
- Dirtbag opts into a couple of core’s progressive enhancements (instant pagination and image lightbox) that gracefully degrade back to plain links and images. ↩︎
